BCS model

Now that the current BCS system has failed for the second consecutive year, I guess we should look at some better alternatives.

Here are the proposed BCS scenarios :-

1. Five BCS bowls
Current system + an extra bowl, two more at-large bids. Not much of an upgrade from the current one..

2.Plus one model
Current system + NC game that matches the No.1 vs No.2 after the 4 bowl games..I guess this complicates the situation a step further..

3.Eight-team playoff
Typical playoff system and lots of fun..When convincing the ADs for an extra bowl game remains tough, getting three more is going to be impossible...

Hence I suggest the following model which encapsulates all the above, but comes with a bit of tweaking.. (pretty much the NFL playoff model)

Christmas Eve/Christmas Day
BCS BOWL A - BCS # 4 vs BCS # 5
BCS BOWL B - BCS # 3 vs BCS # 6

New Year Day
BCS BOWL C - BCS # 1 vs Winner of Bowl A
BCS BOWL D - BCS # 2 vs Winner of Bowl B

Week after the New Year day
NC GAME - Winner of Bowl C vs Winner of Bowl D

This system would have yielded the following matchups this year:

Orange-I: Auburn vs Utah
Rose: Cal vs Texas

Fiesta: USC vs Cal/Texas
Sugar: Oklahoma vs Auburn/Utah

Orange-II: USC/Cal/Texas vs Oklahoma/Auburn/Utah

Am not saying that this would be the perfect model, but a good trade-off considering what we have at present..

Just my 2ยข !
